Since at least January 2017, there has been an outbreak of Salmonella bacterial infections in the United States (US) where the available epidemiologic and laboratory evidence indicates that kratom is a likely source of this infection [10].
As of 14 March 2018, at total of 87 people infected with the outbreak strains of Salmonella I 4,[5],12:b:- (50 cases), Salmonella Javiana (5), Salmonella Okatie (16), or Salmonella Thompson (16) have been reported from 35 states [10].
